# Kick chat commands every channel should have

> The Kick chat commands for viewers that save you time, from !discord and !socials to !followage and !clip, plus the slash commands that you and your mods use.

Source: https://kickbot.com/guides/grow/kick-chat-commands

Kick has two kinds of chat commands. **Slash commands** such as `/ban`, `/slow` and `/raid` are built into Kick and are for you and your moderators. **Bot commands** such as `!discord` or `!followage` come from a chat bot, and any viewer can type them to get an automatic reply. A good channel has a short set of bot commands that answer the questions viewers ask every stream.

This guide lists the commands that are worth adding, with example replies you can copy. The ideas work with any Kick bot. The examples use [KickBot custom commands](https://kickbot.com/docs/chat-bot/custom-commands).

## Kick's own commands (for you and your mods)

Kick lists its commands in the help center ([Kick chat commands](https://help.kick.com/en/articles/7112979-kick-chat-commands)). At the time of writing (October 2026), the most useful ones are:

| Command | What it does | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|
| `/ban username reason` | Bans a user from your chat | Owner and moderators |
| `/timeout username time` | Mutes a user for a time | Owner and moderators |
| `/unban username` | Removes a ban or a timeout | Owner and moderators |
| `/slow on 30` | Slow mode, for example 30 seconds between messages | Owner and moderators |
| `/followonly on` | Only followers can chat | Owner and moderators |
| `/subonly on` | Only subscribers can chat | Owner only |
| `/emoteonly on` | Only emotes in chat | Owner and moderators |
| `/clear` | Clears the chat | Owner and moderators |
| `/title` and `/category` | Changes the stream title or category | Owner and moderators |
| `/poll` and `/prediction` | Opens a poll or a prediction | Owner and moderators |
| `/mod username` | Makes someone a moderator | Owner only |
| `/vip username` and `/og username` | Gives a VIP or OG badge | Owner only |
| `/raid` | Sends your viewers to another live channel | Owner only |

Use `off` instead of `on` to end a chat mode. Kick says moderators are not affected by chat modes. For the full moderation side, see [how to moderate your Kick chat](https://kickbot.com/guides/grow/moderate-kick-chat).

Viewers can type `/help` in chat to see the commands they can use ([How to use Kick chat as a viewer](https://help.kick.com/en/articles/14994494-how-to-use-kick-chat-as-a-viewer)).

## Bot commands every Kick channel should have

These answer the questions that come up again and again. Each one saves you from stopping your stream to type the same answer.

| Command | Example reply |
|---|---|
| `!discord` | Join the community: discord.gg/your-server-code |
| `!socials` | TikTok, YouTube and X: tiktok.com/@yourhandle, youtube.com/@yourhandle, x.com/yourhandle |
| `!schedule` | Live Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 PM CET. Follow to get a notification. |
| `!rules` | Be kind, no spam, no spoilers. Mods can time you out without a warning. |
| `!setup` or `!specs` | PC, camera and mic list, or a link to it |

A few tips:

- Keep replies short. One line in chat is easier to read than a paragraph.
- Use the words your viewers already use. If people ask "what game is this", the stream category already answers that, so you do not need a command for it.
- Do not add 30 commands. Five to ten that people really use are better than a long list nobody reads.
- Put the most important commands in a [timed message](https://kickbot.com/docs/chat-bot/timed-messages), for example "New here? Type !discord to join the community." It posts every few minutes while you are live.

## Ready-made commands and live data

Most bots come with a few ready-made commands. Some of them fill in a value at the moment a viewer types them, such as how long the viewer has followed you.

- **`!followage`**: how long the viewer has followed your channel. Viewers like to show this off.
- **`!lurk`**: a viewer tells you they are watching quietly.
- **`!so username`**: a shout-out for another streamer, useful after a raid.
- **`!commands`**: a list of the commands on your channel.

KickBot has these four as [built-in commands](https://kickbot.com/docs/chat-bot/built-in-commands), together with `!me` and `!welcome`, so you only switch them on. You can also build your own with [command variables](https://kickbot.com/docs/chat-bot/command-variables). For example, a reply like `Welcome {{sender.username}}, we have {{stream.viewers}} viewers right now` fills in the viewer's name and the live viewer count.

## Commands for fun and interaction

These give viewers something to do, which keeps chat active:

- **`!clip`**: any viewer you allow can save the last seconds of the stream as a clip. KickBot posts the link in chat. See [the clip command](https://kickbot.com/docs/chat-bot/clip-command) and [how viewers clip on Kick](https://kickbot.com/guides/viewers/clip-on-kick).
- **TTS commands** such as `!tts hello chat`: the message is read aloud on stream. See [TTS on Kick](https://kickbot.com/guides/setup/tts-on-kick).
- **`!voices`**: posts a link to the list of TTS voices on your channel.
- **`!imagine`**: a viewer describes a picture and an AI image shows on stream. See [AI images](https://kickbot.com/docs/ai/ai-images).
- **Random replies**: for example `!8ball` with a random answer from a list, made with a random variable.

## Who can use a command, and cooldowns

Two settings stop commands from flooding chat:

- **Who can use it.** Most info commands are for everyone. Fun commands that show on stream (TTS, images, clips) often work better for subs, VIPs or mods only.
- **Cooldowns.** A user cooldown stops one viewer from using a command again and again. A global cooldown stops everyone for a time. In KickBot, both can be 0 to 300 seconds.

On the KickBot Free plan, up to 5 custom commands can be on at the same time. Built-in commands do not count toward that number.

## How to add these commands

1. Make sure your bot is a moderator. For KickBot, type `/mod KickBot` in your chat. See [add KickBot as a moderator](https://kickbot.com/docs/getting-started/add-kickbot-as-moderator).
2. Open [kickbot.com/dashboard/commands](https://kickbot.com/dashboard/commands).
3. Add a command, type the name without the `!`, and type the reply.
4. Type the command in your own chat to test it while you are live.

The full step-by-step setup, with timed messages and filters, is in [set up a chat bot on Kick](https://kickbot.com/guides/setup/kick-chat-bot-setup).

## FAQ

**What are the chat commands on Kick for viewers?**

Kick itself gives viewers `/help` to list the commands they can use. Commands that start with `!`, such as `!discord` or `!followage`, come from the channel's chat bot. Each channel has its own set. Many channels have a `!commands` command that lists them.

**What are the mod commands on Kick?**

Moderators can use `/ban`, `/unban`, `/timeout`, `/clear`, `/slow`, `/followonly`, `/emoteonly`, `/title`, `/category`, `/poll` and `/prediction`. Only the channel owner can use `/mod`, `/unmod`, `/subonly`, `/vip`, `/og` and `/raid` ([Kick chat commands](https://help.kick.com/en/articles/7112979-kick-chat-commands)).

**How do I make a custom command on Kick?**

Kick does not have custom commands of its own. You add them with a chat bot. In KickBot, open **Custom commands**, add a name such as `discord` and type the reply. KickBot must be a moderator in your channel to reply.

**Why does my command not reply in chat?**

Most of the time the bot is not a moderator in your channel. Type `/mod KickBot` in your chat. Also check that the command is on and that the viewer's role is allowed to use it.
