Connect an AI app to KickBot
You connect an AI app to KickBot with the KickBot MCP server. Add the server URL as a custom connector (or MCP server) in the app, then approve the app on the KickBot page that opens. The app can then manage your commands, timed messages, TTS, alerts, widgets and more for you, for example “Add a !discord command with my server link.”
The KickBot MCP server URL is:
https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcpWhat happens when you connect
Section titled “What happens when you connect”When an app connects for the first time, it opens a KickBot page in your browser:
- Sign in to KickBot.
- Choose the Channel.
- Choose the access level:
- Read and change settings. The app can make changes, the same as you can in the dashboard. Changes apply to your live channel.
- Read only. The app can see your settings and data, but cannot change anything.
- Click Approve.
The app gets only the permissions you have on that channel. If you are a team member and not the owner, the owner or an admin must turn on API & MCP access for you in Manage Team. Channels where you do not have it are not in the list.
Use the setup prompt
Section titled “Use the setup prompt”The fastest way for apps that can follow instructions (for example coding agents):
- Open API & MCP in the dashboard.
- Click Copy setup prompt.
- Send the prompt to your AI app.
The prompt tells the app to read the agent guide, add the MCP server, and sign in with your KickBot account. You approve the access in KickBot as described above.
ChatGPT
Section titled “ChatGPT”- In ChatGPT, open Settings > Apps & Connectors. Turn on developer mode in Advanced settings if your plan requires it.
- Click Create (or Add custom connector).
- Enter a name, for example “KickBot”, and paste the MCP server URL.
- Select OAuth for authentication and click Create.
- Approve the connection on the KickBot page that opens.
Claude
Section titled “Claude”- In Claude, open Settings > Connectors.
- Click Add custom connector.
- Enter “KickBot” and paste the MCP server URL. Leave the OAuth fields empty.
- Click Connect and approve the connection on the KickBot page.
- Open the connectors (or custom MCP) settings in Grok.
- Add a new connector with the MCP server URL.
- Approve the connection on the KickBot page that opens.
For the xAI API and Grok Build, use an API key instead, and send it in the authorization field of the remote MCP tool.
Cursor, VS Code and other MCP apps
Section titled “Cursor, VS Code and other MCP apps”Most MCP apps sign in with OAuth on their own when you add the server URL. For example, in Cursor add this to your MCP settings:
{ "mcpServers": { "kickbot": { "url": "https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcp" } }}If an app does not support OAuth, use an API key and send it as a header:
{ "mcpServers": { "kickbot": { "url": "https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${KICKBOT_API_KEY}" } } }}Load fewer tools
Section titled “Load fewer tools”The server has many tools. Some apps work better with fewer. Add ?areas= with the areas you need, separated by commas:
https://kickbot.com/api/v1/mcp?areas=commands,timers,ttsArea names: commands, timers, clip_command, moderation, ai_character, imagine, chat_alerts, tts, tipping, overlays, widgets, clips, vods. The account area (with get_account_overview) is always included. The API reference lists what each area covers.
Disconnect an app
Section titled “Disconnect an app”- Open API & MCP in the dashboard.
- Under Connected apps, click the app, then click Disconnect.
- Click Disconnect app in the popup.
The app loses access to your channel at once. To use it again, connect it again. Owners and admins can disconnect any app on the channel.
Can ChatGPT post messages in my Kick chat?
No. No app can send a chat message directly. An app can set up commands, timed messages and chat alerts, and KickBot posts those the normal way.
Why does the app not show some KickBot tools?
The app sees only the tools for features you have permission to use on that channel. A read-only connection sees only read tools. If you added ?areas= to the URL, the app sees only those areas.
How long does a connection last?
Until you disconnect it, or until the app is not used for 60 days. Removing a team member also ends their connections.
