Use clips and short videos to grow on Kick

Kick details checked on October 24, 2026

Short videos are a common way for people to find a new streamer. The process is simple: collect the best moments while you stream, download them as MP4 files, cut them into vertical videos of under a minute or so, and post them on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels with your Kick name. Kick itself suggests clips and highlights on social media as a way to reach new viewers (How to build a live streaming audience on Kick).

This guide covers each step: how to collect moments, how to get the video files, and how to make a short that people watch to the end.

The hard part is not editing. It is finding the moments later. Save them while they happen.

Kick clips. On Kick, any logged-in viewer or the streamer can make a clip with the Clip icon or the C key. Kick clips are 10 to 180 seconds long, and there is a 60-second wait between clips (How to create clips on Kick). Clips show on your channel’s Clips tab. Kick says streamers can also turn clipping off, so check that it is on if viewers say they cannot clip (Clips not saving or clip errors).

A chat clip command. Viewers often do not think to press a button, but they will type !clip when something funny happens. With KickBot’s clip command, !clip saves the last 30 seconds of your stream (you can change the length) and posts the link in chat. Viewers can also type a length, for example !clip 60. The clips go to your KickBot clip page at kickbot.com/clips/yourchannel, where you can download each one as an MP4.

Notes. Keep a notepad or a stream marker and write the time when something good happens. Then you can find it in the VOD later.

You need MP4 files to edit. There are three sources:

SourceHow to get the MP4
Kick clipsKick says all clips can be downloaded as MP4 when you view them (How to create clips on Kick). The KickBot clip downloader also downloads any Kick clip from its link.
KickBot !clip clipsOpen the clip on your KickBot clip page and click Download.
Your VODsKick has no download button for VODs. Kick’s help center points to third-party tools (How to download your Kick VOD). The KickBot VOD downloader makes an MP4 of a whole VOD, and the VOD editor cuts just the part you need.

Download your VODs soon. At the time of writing (October 2026), Kick keeps replays for 7 days on channels that are not verified, and up to 30 days on verified channels (Kick VODs).

For the viewer’s side of this, see how to download Kick clips and VODs.

TikTok, Shorts and Reels are vertical (9:16, for example 1080 x 1920 pixels). Your stream is horizontal (16:9). You have a few layout options:

  • Facecam on top, gameplay below. A common layout for gaming streams. Crop your camera into the top third and the game into the bottom two thirds.
  • Center crop. Cut the middle of the frame. Works for “just chatting” and IRL streams where you are in the center.
  • Gameplay with a blurred background. The horizontal video in the middle, with a blurred copy behind it. Easy, but the video looks small on a phone.

Any video editor works, including free ones such as CapCut or DaVinci Resolve. Many streamers make one template with the layout and use it for every clip.

A short gets more views when people watch it to the end. Some habits that help:

  • Start with the moment. No intro. The first second should already be interesting.
  • Cut the waiting. Remove the slow part before the funny moment.
  • Add captions. Many people watch without sound. Most editors can make captions automatically.
  • Keep the stream chat in or out on purpose. Chat can add to the joke, but small text is hard to read on a phone.
  • One moment per video. Do not put three moments in one short.
  • Put your Kick name in your profile, and in the video or the caption: kick.com/yourchannel.
  • Post at a steady rate. A few shorts a week, every week, beats ten shorts once.
  • Reply to comments. Viewers who talk to you there are likely to come to a stream.
  • Say in the video or the caption when you are live next.

Use your Kick analytics to see if more people follow after you post. Kick shows the followers you gain per stream (Understanding your streamer analytics).

  1. During streams: clip with the C key or let viewers use !clip.
  2. After each stream: write down the two best moments.
  3. Once or twice a week: download the clips (or cut them from the VOD), edit three to five shorts with your template, and schedule them.
  4. Every few weeks: look at which shorts brought followers and make more like them.

If a clip shows another streamer, a video or music you do not own, the platform you post on can remove it. Clip your own streams. If you post a clip of another streamer, ask them first and credit them.

How do I turn Kick clips into TikToks?

Download the clip as an MP4 (from Kick or with a clip downloader), open it in a video editor, change the format to 9:16 vertical, crop your camera and the game into the frame, add captions and post it with your Kick name in the caption.

How long can a Kick clip be?

Kick clips are 10 to 180 seconds long. A KickBot !clip clip is 30 seconds by default and can be up to 120 seconds on the Free plan, or up to 240 seconds with Premium.

How do I download my Kick VOD to make clips?

Kick has no download button for VODs. Use a VOD downloader such as the KickBot VOD downloader, or cut only the part you need with the VOD editor. Download soon, because Kick deletes old replays after 7 days on channels that are not verified.

Can my viewers make clips for me?

Yes. Any logged-in viewer can make a Kick clip with the Clip icon or the C key. With a bot clip command, viewers can also type !clip in chat.
